Anonymous asked: Hi! I am also unemployed...and thinking of pursuing my own MBA. Can you tell me, did you go to a good school? how much loans did you take out, and are you having trouble paying them back? any regrets?
Also, would it be better, do you think, to not get an mba, but instead start my own business or intern to break into a job?

I went to an ok school (not top ten, but not an online diploma mill). It’s a public school that’s generally considered “respectable.” I took out loans, much more than the tuition, to cover living expenses. BIG regrets:( Based on my experience, I would highly advice NOT going to business school. I’m still unemployed (graduated in 2009), trying to obtain ANY sort of job, and I’m in that weird limbo between “overqualified” (based on my degree) and “not really qualified for anything” (since my work experience was at a few companies doing vastly different types of jobs).

I think that starting your own business is a better idea. I’m also opposed to interning (personally, I think the whole internship thing is a scam in order for companies to get free labor - they say it’s a good deal for the interns, but how?? These days, very few companies are hiring, so chances are that it may not lead to a paying job anyway. I’d rather volunteer for an actual good cause than just do office work for free.) So, I’d be more in favor of starting a business, but try to find one with low-ish start-up costs (for instance, a service business rather than a retail shop - the rent alone contributes to huge overhead.)
